Which (Free) Cloud Storage To Choose

December 20, 2012 in Non-Tech, Storage, Tech

There are many free cloud storage options out there to choose from, but which ones are the best?  Do you go by who gives you the most free storage, the one recommended by a co-worker, by a friend, or by the latest pop-up you saw?  Maybe you go the more responsible route and choose based upon reliability, security, ease of use, cost and their support.  Any way you decide there are a few names that keep popping up.  Microsoft SkyDrive, SugarSync, Mozy, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive. There’s a good article […]

My Time With The SonyX Headphones

December 18, 2012 in Non-Tech

There are a lot of differing options about Klout, but the one thing they excel at is getting brands to participate in their perks program.  This is a great way  to get people talking about or even promoting your brand (plus people get free stuff). I was lucky enough to snag one of the Simon Cowell SonyX headphone perks a few moths ago.  Granted these headphones are something I would have never thought about purchasing, mainly because I was not a fan of the huge headphones that looked like they […]

How Do You Measure Online Influence?

November 30, 2012 in Non-Tech

With so  many people/brands online these days how do you determine who to trust or listen to?  Do you look at followers, fans, likes, amount of activity, people they follow, Klout score, or any of the other online influence tools?  I admit, I do keep track of my Klout score not to see how high I can get it but to see if people find the content I am putting out there relevant.  While not perfect (none are) sites like Klout and Kred at least give you some sort of […]

Cold Tweeting???

October 11, 2012 in Non-Tech

I sent out a tweet earlier asking this but figured I could build a poll around it. What are your thoughts on people reaching out to you randomly on twitter?  Do you find it flattering because you may be influential about a topic they need help with or do you find it annoying?  Does it make a difference if it is a person or a brand doing the reaching out?  Take the survey below and let me know, I would like to know the sentiment around this…thanks!

Quick How-to: Configure iSCSI on a Force10 S55 Switch

September 24, 2012 in Networking, Tech

I originally posted this on DellTechCenter.com, but thought it would be a good fit here too! This blog will show the basic initial steps to configure your Force10 S55 for use with iSCSI. Start by configuring the management port of the S55. Force10#config Force10#interface managementethernet 0/0 Force10(conf-if-ma-0/0)#ip address A.B.C.D /24 Next configure the username/password. Force10(conf)#username admin privilege 15 password 0 password Force10(conf)#enable password level 15 0 password Now configure the gigabit ports Force10(conf)#interface range gig 0/0 – 47 Force10(conf-if-range-gi-0/0-47)#mtu 9216 Force10(conf-if-range-gi-0/0-47)#no shutdown Force10(conf-if-range-gi-0/0-47)#switchport Force10(conf-if-range-gi-0/0-47)#spanning-tree rstp edge-port Force10(conf-if-range-gi-0/0-47)#flowcontrol rx on tx […]

What Happened To The NFL!?

September 17, 2012 in Non-Tech

As I sit and watch the Denver/Atlanta game I can’t help but to think what has happened to the NFL.  I know the replacement ref’s are calling to the best of their ability, but c’mon man!  They are missing a lot of very blatant calls on both defense, not to mention how inconsistent they are on the spot of the ball.  As if the blown calls weren’t enough, I feel as if these replacement referee’s are being influenced by the coaches and the players. Now, I know this won’t hurt […]

Help me, help you, help me..make a decision

August 15, 2012 in Tech

I was recently invited to be a guest speaker on Lance Boley’s Datacenter Chic podcast along with Kong Yang.  This was on our upcoming trip to VMword 2012 in San Francisco and our annual user group there.  I was honored to be a part of it and I think it provides valuable information about the event and also letting everyone know our plans while we’re there. So here’s my question.  I am thinking about starting a podcast or VLOG series and I want to know if you find these valuable?  […]

PowerConnect iSCSI Optimization

August 6, 2012 in Networking, Storage

One of the questions I see a lot is how to configure our PowerConnect switches for iSCSI optimization.  First let’s talk a little about what this actually does within the switch itself. iSCSI optimization provides the following features: Ability to assign a specific QoS profile to the iSCSI flows Display of iSCSI session details (connections, initiator, target, and so on) Identification of (self-discovered) iSCSI sessions Identification of iSCSI session termination Identification of non-active iSCSI sessions Another cool feature of this is it will auto detect EqualLogic arrays automatically reconfigure the […]

Can Never Have To Much Memory

July 5, 2012 in Tech

Working for Dell TechCenter I do a lot of editing and creating at home.  Well it turns out when you have Photoshop, after effects, Sony Vegas, Camtasia, Illustrator, Outlook, TweetDeck, and a couple other programs running at the same time…the 12gb of memory that you have gets bogged down pretty quickly. So I decided to take the plunge and upgrade my Aliennware to 24Gb. I was thinking it would still be a little sluggish, but I was wrong. Even with all those programs running there is no delay in doing […]
